What Is Huperzine A?
Huperzine A is a naturally occurring sesquiterpene alkaloid compound found in Chinese club moss or fir club moss plants.
What Does Huperzine A Do?
Huperzine A increases levels of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. It does so by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, which is an enzyme responsible for regulating and limiting the amount of acetylcholine in the brain. This helps in diseases that interfere with memory and thinking, and in the muscle disease, myasthenia gravis.
Huperzine A also assists in increasing alertness and energy, and for protecting against agents that damage the nerves such as nerve gases.
